HIV Care and Treatment

In recent years, great advances in HIV care and treatment have allowed many people living with HIV to regain their health, live longer, and plan their futures. As simpler and less expensive antiretroviral treatment regimens have become more readily available, our programs have expanded to assist the millions of people living with HIV to access the care and treatment they need. Following are examples of how EngenderHealth is helping to ensure a better life for people living with HIV:

  • In Ghana, the “High-Impact Package” developed by Quality Health Partners (QHP), a project supported by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and managed by EngenderHealth, is emphasizing the rapid scale-up of antiretroviral treatment. EngenderHealth is now training 1,300 heath care workers to reach 40,000 people living with HIV.

  • In India, with support from the Global Fund for AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria, EngenderHealth is establishing regional centers to train 14,000 HIV-positive people as peer educators who—along with health workers—provide comprehensive care and support, including counseling on treatment adherence, to 137,000 people living with HIV. EngenderHealth is also introducing its quality improvement approaches to help strengthen services in Karnataka through the USAID-funded Samastha Project, reaching 15,000 adults living with HIV and 5,000 orphans.

  • In Kenya, EngenderHealth is leading the APHIA-II Project in Nyanza, the province with the highest number of people living with HIV. This project improves and expands care, treatment, and support services for more than 18,000 adults living with HIV and 55,000 orphans.
